FIRE SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force on the 1st October 2006

The Order amended or replaced 118 pieces of legislation, the most significant being the repeal of the Fire Precautions Act 1971 and the revocation of Fire Precautions (workplace) Regulation 1997.

The Order applies to the majority of premises and workplaces in the UK and outlines all the measures that must be taken in the workplace to ensure the safety of all the people that employers are directly or indirectly responsible for.

The Order firmly places the responsibility on the Responsible Person who is defined as the person who has control of the premises (as occupier or otherwise) or the owner.

The responsible person can undertake the tasks themselves or appoint a competent person to assist them with their duties.
